Wilson, Edward - Residence
Wilson (1872-1912) arrived here, as is commemorated by a Blue Plaque on 42 Vicarage Crescent, Battersea, as a newly qualified doctor to work in the Cauis College Mission charity in 1898. He gained considerable respect in his time from a publication of his observations when on the first expedition to the Ross Sea led by Scott of the Antarctic between 1900 and 1904. He then went as the leader of the scientific team on the expedition that set out in 1910 with the ambition of sending a group to the South Pole. He was a member of Scott's group that made that trek and died with them as they returned. Two of his companions in that also have Blue Plaque commemoration within less than a couple of miles: Oates in Upper Richmond Road, Putney; and Scott in Oakley Street, Chelsea.
