Scott, Robert Falcon - Residence

Scott of the Antarctic (1868-1912), whose residence here at 56 Oakley Street, Chelsea, is commemorated by a Blue Plaque, has been hugely renowned as the epitome of the courageous British failure. However, before his final fatal expedition he had had some success in the exploration of the Ross Sea in command of the National Antarctic Expedition of 1900-04. Two of his companions in 1912 also have Blue Plaque commemoration within 3 mile: Oates in Upper Richmond Road, Putney; and Wilson in Vicarage Crescent, Battersea.
