Cubitt (1788-1855), whose residence here at 3 Lyall Street is commemorated by a Blue Plaque, was the developer of Belgravia, i.e., most of the area bounded by Knightsbridge, Grosvenor Place, Buckingham Palace Road and Sloane Street. This is largely open ground on a map of 1817 and almost as now on a map of about 1862. He was also responsible for the construction of the famed east front of Buckingham Palace.
