As of the late 1980's the 250,000 cubic foot capacity gas holder here was, supposedly, the oldest such structure having been built by the Imperial Gas Light & Coke Company to the design of Samuel Clegg in the first half of the 19th century. At that time the more usual size for these things was only 40,000 cubic feet.
