New Covent Garden Market
The major central London market for fruits, vegetables and flowers moved here from the Covent Garden of 'My Fair Lady' fame in 1974. The buildings occupy 65 acres, whereas the old market's site was 12 acres, and undoubtedly the accommodation and the ease of access have been greatly improved. It is also true that in the following quarter century the distribution of these goods has hugely altered away from the requirement for a centralised distribution centre servicing a multitude of retail outlets.
