This was the alias of Charles Louis de Bourbon, Duke of Normandy and Pretender to the throne of France who was once the tenant of Mulgrave House on the eastern boundary of the Ranelagh estate. As noted by the local historian Ms Denny:

The Illustrated London News of 4 January 1845 reported that: 'The self-styled Duke of Normandy who now occupies Mulgrave House, Fulham, where he has for some time been carrying out his invention of explosive materials to be employed in warfare, was again shot at on Thursday evening by some unknown assassin.'
