Mulgrave House

This house once stood on the eastern boundary of the Ranelagh House estate. It was occupied by the 7th Lord Ranelagh who inherited from his violent father on his death in 1820. A lessee in 1844 was Mr Price which was an alias for Charles Louis de Bourbon, Duke of Normandy and Pretender to the throne of France. As noted by the local historian Ms Denny:

The Illustrated London News of 4 January 1845 reported that: 'The self-styled Duke of Normandy who now occupies Mulgrave House, Fulham, where he has for some time been carrying out his invention of explosive materials to be employed in warfare, was again shot at on Thursday evening by some unknown assassin.'

The house and its 15 acres of grounds were leased to the Hurlingham Club when the Ranelagh's lease expired. Those grounds included the lake which is a major feature of Hurlingham Park, now the concern of the local authority.
