The present Putney Bridge
Designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette this bridge was opened by the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) on 29/05/1886. It cost £240,433 to construct with a further £164,915 spent on the approaches. It replaced the first, permanent, bridge between Putney and Fulham which had been opened in November 1729 (having cost £11,555 16s. 8d to build). The structure of that bridge had been badly damaged by a barge in 1870.
The bridge joins Putney Approach, Fulham and Putney High Street.
