1819 7th July. Artist's picnic on Eel Pie Island

J.M.W. Turner, who lived in Twickenham with his father, was one of 11 artists who were included in an outing from the City of London to the island where they ate al fresco. They were taken in an ordnance shallop, provided by the Duke of Wellington with 10 rowers, in a procession of city barges
