1394 Death of Anne of Bohemia
Anne, wife of Richard II, died in the Royal residence in the Manor of Shene where there had been royal residences since the time of Henry I in 1126. Richard was so hugely upset that, according to the chronicler John Stow (1525-1605): 'besides cursing the place where she did die, he did also, for anger, throwe down the buildings.' It was Henry V who started to pick them up again some 20 years later.

1638 William Hollar Painting of Richmond Palace
This is probably a fairly accurate record of the palace as it had been rebuilt and developed by Henry VII after it had been severely damaged by fire. Henry VII was a considerable patron of the renaissance arts. as well as being able to accumulate a personal fortune of some £1.5 million by his death in this palace in 1509.
