1499 Monastic Foundation

The Franciscan Convent of Observant Friars was founded by Henry VII in 1499 adjacent to his Richmond Palace and was completed in 1506. Less than 30 years later the Warden was prosecuted for his opposition to the Act of Supremacy along with Henry VIII's divorce of Catherine of Aragon and executed (May 1534) in the company of several friars for opposition to the Act of Supremacy.
