1826 (October) The opening of Hammersmith bridge

A considerable effort was made, including that of having the work finished in time, to have a grand opening of Clark's bridge by the Dukes of Clarence and Sussex. However they refused to go through with the arrangement because an unnamed nobleman drove his carriage across some time before. The associated events were cancelled but there was such a public outcry that they were re-instated for a few days later.

1887 (11/06) Present Hammersmith bridge opened

This was a wider replacement of William Tierney Clarks bridge. It was designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette but incorporated a lot of the features of the old bridge.
