Zoffany, John - Revenge
Zoffany (1725 - 1810) made a fortune having been taken up as atheatrical painter and then as a portraitist of the family of George III. He spent that fortune and went to India to make another. On his return, the king suggested he paint a version of the Last Supper for St Ann'e church on Kew Green. As well as including himself, his wife and local fishermen Zoffany included, as Judas, a prominent member of St Anne's Vestry with whom Zoffany had had a dispute in the making of his will. The Vestry refused to pay unless he repainted. Zoffany refused and gave it to St George's church Brentford and it has now passed to St Paul's church.
