Duke of Argyll - Residence

Sudbrook Park, Petersham was built in 1726 by James Gibbs in the Palladian style for the 2nd Duke. Argyll is the title of the chiefs of the Campbells. John was a renowned soldier fighting under Marlborough in the War of the Spanish Succession. He was committed to the Union and commanded the Hanoverian forces that dispersed the troops of the Jacobite rising in Scotland. The building now houses the Richmond golf club.
