Pembroke Lodge, Richmond Park
Now a catering facility for the public here in Richmond Park, this was originally (about 1745) the mole-catcher's lodge until it was bought and enlarged (1795) by the Countess of Pembroke. A previous Pembroke Lodge on Richmond Green was demolished when the railway went through in the 1840's. Later it was a home of the Russell family, including Lord John Russell who was prime minister from 1846-1852 and again in 1865 and his grandson Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) the philosopher, mathematician and activist.
