Fine Georgian houses, The Terrace, Richmond Hill
With the magnificent view south-west and west over the Thames valley to Windsor there is here a sequence of fine homes. They include: No 3 and Doughty House, both built 1769; The Wick built 1775; Wick House and Ancaster House both built in 1772. No 3 was designed by Sir Robert Taylor for Christopher Blanchard who was a maker of playing cards for George III; Doughty House is named after the foundress of St Elizabeth's Church in the Vineyard nearby; The Wick was built for Lady St Aubyn by Robert Mylne; Wick House was built by Sir William Chambers for Sir Joshua Reynolds, altered by its Victorian owners but restored (except for the added large bowed wing) after the last war; Ancaster House was built by the 3rd Duke of Ancaster on land he was granted in 1772 and later lived in by Sir Lionel Darrell who was a close friend of George III.
