Mortlake parish church

The Mortlake parish church was rebuilt here on its present site in 1543. This is right on the edge of the parish. The earliest tomb in the graveyard is that of a John Partridge (1644-1715) who is described as an 'Astrologer, almanac maker and quack.' Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth (1757-1844), also rests here in the tomb he raised for his wife Ursula. He was briefly, and not very successfully, Prime Minister (1801-4) and otherwise a pretty ruthless Home Secretary (1812-21) amongst other cabinet offices. He was also for a time Deputy Ranger of Richmond Park and responsible for the Sidmouth plantation there.
