Shene, Royal residences

Houses / palaces here were used by Edwards I, II and III but destroyed by Richard II in 1394 as he raged in grief over the death of his queen, Anne of Bohemia (although he recovered enough to remarry 2 years later). Henry V began rebuilding from 1414 and that was continued by Henry VI to achieve the palace damaged by fire on 23 December 1497 when Henry VII was in residence. Following that he caused the building of what he titled Richmond Palace, because his family estates were centred on Richmond Yorkshire, so that this part of Shene became Richmond.
