Carthusian Monastery, Old Deer Park, Richmond
In expiation of his father's involvement in the murder of Richard II, Henry V founded a Carthusian house here in 1415 (as well as Syon House in Twickenham Park on the opposite bank). Monks from the monastery here used to take a daily walk up Richmond hill to a stile at the top. Their route supposedly gave its name to Friar Stile Road, Richmond.
