Pope (1688-1744), who is buried just before the chancel here in St Mary's Church, Twickenham, placed a memorial to himself and his parents in this church. Bishop Warburton placed here a memorial specifically to Pope in 1761.

'Foulweather Jack' (1723-86) was a grandfather of the poet Lord Byron (1788-1824). He made a circumnavigation in 1764-66 and was governor of Newfoundland 1769-72. His grandson's poem Don Juan used elements of his account of being shipwrecked in 1761 on the coast of Chile. He is buried in the Berkeley family vault in St Mary's church Twickenham.
