Turner, J.M.W. - Painting scene
There was once a ferry here over the river Crane which is said to be the site of Turner's 'The Watercress Gatherers'. Turner lived for a number of years at Sandycombe (originally Solus) Lodge nearby.

An extensive cellar
A General Thomas Bland lived here in Gordon House. On his death in 1816 the contents of his cellar was found to include: 949 bottles of port; 192 of sherry; and 221 of Madeira.
