Barnes windmill

There is a record of a windmill in Barnes in 1443. There is evidence in rate books for milling throughout the 18th century and the last miller is claimed to have been named Trock who was there until about 1835 when the mill was pulled down. Mary Grimwade's notes to Anderson's history state that: 'In October 1780 an unusual hurricane overturned the post mill...and it was replaced by a smock mill.'
