Beneficiaries from Putney bridge's building
The acts authorising the building required compensation to land owners, copyhold tenants and watermen. £62 was paid to the church wardens of Fulham and Putney churches for distribution to watermen's widows and children. £23 went to the Bishop of London and £364 10s to the Duchess of Marlborough as land owners. £7,999 19s 11d was paid to David Pettiwood and William Skelton as copy-hold tenants for their rights to run a ferry. This last was the equivalent of some 20 years income from the ferry.
