Brentford - The name
The ford part is obvious and has quite early significance from the likely use of the crossing here by Julius Caesar in 54 BC. The 'Brent' element however is a rare survival from the Celtic language that spread from central Europe with the skills or skilled peoples of the late bronze age(1000-800BC).
